Major events during the war of 1812
- There were many events during the war of 1812 but some events were more important than others.
- On June 18, 1812, President James Madison along with the congress declared war against the British.
- U.S. general William Hull's army invades Upper Canada at Sandwich known as Windsor on July 12, 1812.
- On August 16, 1812, the British along with Tecumseh invaded Detroit and won because Detroit surrendered.
- On October 13, 1812, British forces won the Battle of Queenston but sadly in this battle Sir Isaac Brock lost his life.
- On April 27, 1813, Americans invade and capture York which is known as Toronto and later burned down some of buildings.
- On June 22, 1813, Laura Secord walked 32 km to warn the British of a possible attack from the Americans.
- On September 10, 1813, American naval forces won the the battle of Lake Erie.
- On December 30, 1813, the British crossed the Niagara River and captured Fort Niagara.
- On August 24, 1814, the British invade Washington and burn down the White House along with other building in the area.
- On December 31, 1814, on Christman Eve the Americans and the British both signed the Treaty of Ghent.
- On January 8, 1815, the final battle of the war started, the battle of New Orleans (the battle happened because it took time for the message to get to everyone about the Treaty of Ghent was signed).
