what happened after the War of 1812
Not too many exciting events happened such as battles but there were many changes made. The war had increased trading along the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes because countries had lost many resources. The Americans went south and west to look for more land instead of trying to invading Upper Canada. The war of 1812 convinced America that they could take on any foreign threats and they focused more on growth and development on America.
The Rush Bagot agreementThe rush Bagot agreement of 1817 freed the Great lakes and other bodies of water from military control. Both British and Americans were allowed 1 ship on Lake Champlain and Lake Ontario. On the other lakes 2 ships were allowed. The Rush Bagot agreement prevented smuggling between the two nations.

The Rideau canalThe Rideau canal was proposed after the war had ended. This particular route was another way to get from Quebec to the Great Lake and back. The canal was made so if the Americans captured the St. Lawrence River, the British would be able to access the Great Lakes.
