British's Fault
There were many reasons why the war started. America and Great Britain played a role in why the war occurred.
When American ship left America for trading, they were gone for along time and they faced a lot of trouble when they were sailing.
The Napoleonic war cause the British to have a lot of problems with the Americans.
The Napoleonic war were battles between France and other European countries including the British.
The Americans didn't want to get involved in this but something happened.
The British ruled the sea so they had the power to restrict trading between
America and Europe.
The Americans considered this as illegal under international laws.
British didn't only restrict trading but they also captured and forced more than 10,000 American sailors into the Royal Navy (British Navy).
The Americans weren't very happy with this. So on the 8th of July 1812 President James Madison declared war against the British.

America's Fault
The Americans desired to expand their territory so they choice to invade Upper Canada assuming that it would be easy.
At that time, Upper Canada belonged to the British.
The Americans attacked Upper Canada in an attempt to gain land and cut off British supplies to
Tecumseh's Indians.
Since the Americans attack British territory, they also got angry. So the British fought back.
